Foodie revolution

Let's talk about FOOD & balance!  I am a total foodie .. diets never worked for me because food and good food MUST BE present  in my life. ----》 so starving myself or eating bland foods is totally out of the question.

I have finally found something that fits my foodie lifestyle!  I get to bake and cook fancy meals my heart out!  Eat delicious snacks and never get bored of my meal plan. 😎 ya I know radical right ?

It's all about balance. And portion control. It's crazy once you get those basics down how easy proper nutrition can be. So screw the diet ... screw not eating the occasional treat. And screw not being able to accomplish my goal of sticking to clean eating! I've found something that WORKS! Thank God.󾮡

Still have a couple spots left in my next challenge group that focuses on BALANCE when it comes to nutrition.  Ready to say screw the diet? Join the foodie revolution  󾁒󾁛󾁑

3RD TRIMESTER FOODS

I am 33 weeks pregnant today! What kind of foods are best in the last stretch of pregnancy?

What you eat during the last 3 months of pregnancy supports the continued development of your unborn baby, so it's essential that you choose nutrient dense foods that supply the vitamins and minerals your little one needs to grow .

Salmon 👉Your baby's brain develops at a rapid pace during the third trimester, and eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids supports that growth. Salmon is a top food source of docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, a specific fatty acid that promotes the formation and development of your unborn baby's nervous system. Season a piece of fresh salmon with your favorite herbs and spices. Grill or broil the fish for a nutritious meal or shred the cooked fish and scatter it over a tossed green salad. Walnuts, flaxseed and trout are healthy sources of DHA as well
Eggs 👉Eggs contain choline, a nutrient that promotes proper functioning of cells, making it essential during the rapid growth your baby goes through during the third trimester. An article published in 2000 in the "Journal of the American College of Nutrition" notes that choline is often depleted during pregnancy but is critical for memory development that lasts throughout your baby's life. Adequate intake of choline might reduce your baby's risk of renal, pancreatic and growth disorders as well, reports a 2005 study published in the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition." Have a hard-boiled egg for a snack or eat scrambled eggs as part of a healthy breakfast to help your baby get the choline she needs.
Protein foods 👉Your unborn baby requires adequate protein to support the growth and development of her tissues and muscles during the third trimester. Many foods that contain protein also supply iron and zinc. Iron can help prevent premature delivery and low birth weight, and zinc aids in the production of insulin and enzymes. Lean beef and pork, white meat poultry, fish and beans are nutritious sources of protein, iron and zinc. Have a piece of grilled beef or pork for dinner or add shredded turkey or chicken to soup or chili. Add beans to stew, pasta or tossed green salads to boost your intake of protein, iron and zinc.
Additional Foods 👉Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables during the third trimester of your pregnancy. They contain fiber, which can prevent constipation, a common complaint during this point in pregnancy. Fruits and vegetables supply vitamin C for your baby's immune system, vitamin A to support bone and tooth development and folate for proper DNA formation. Drink milk and eat low-fat cheese for a healthy dose of calcium, which promotes the formation of your baby's bones and teeth. Dairy foods supply B vitamins as well, which are essential for your baby's skin, nerves, digestive system and eyes.

Turkey Cabbage rolls

I said I would post my recipe for the turkey cabbage rolls... and I always keep my word so here it is!

This was my first time making cabbage rolls. I'm all about trying out new recipes before baby comes so I can make huge batches on Sundays and freeze them. This one has been approved to the list and best part.. it's healthy!

Ingredients
-1 medium green cabbage
-1 pound ground turkey
-half cup brown rice
-2 cups spinach
-half cup chopped mushrooms
-2 small cloves garlic
-1 yellow onion
-extra virgin olive oil
-fresh basil
-fresh oregano
-maranara sauce
-fresh cut tomatoes
-sea salt and pepper to taste

In a medium skillet add 1 TBS of olive oil. Add garlic and mushrooms. Once soft add in spinach and cook down for about 4 mins, put in a bowl and let cool. Brown onions in thr skillet until soft, put those aside to cool as well.  Chop up spinach and mushrooms.ans add to onions. In a large pot add water and salt and boil.  Once boiling put in head of cabbage (remember to cut the stock off so it peels easy) every 5 mins a layer of leaf should easily come off... repeat until you have necessary amount for cabbage rolls.

Mix the spinach, garlic and onion mix in with ground turkey. Chop up fresh basil and oregano and add into mixture.

Dry the cabbage leaves and cut a triangle into the bottom to get any left over stem. Scoop a spoonful of the turkey mixture into the leaf and roll tucking in sides.  Lay into a lightly greased pan.

Once you have all the rolls complete spoon over tomatoes and maranara sauce onto the rolls.

Cover with tinfoil and bake at 375 for 1 hour.

Let cool and enjoy :)

Left over Turkey soup

Homemade turkey soup SAY WHAT lol

This girl LOVES her food. But keeping it healthy and tasty can be so difficult.

This soup has the best of both worlds!

{The recipe}

Okay so what to do with the leftover turkey bones ? make BROTH baby!

-in a large pot put turkey bones/leftovers fill with water a few inches above turkey leftovers
-add in spices (Bay leaves, oregano, pepper and sea salt)
-boil for 4 hours
-strain and put juices and meat into crock pot

Crock pots are AMAZING this time of year especially. Makes it super easy for healthy meals that isn't time consuming!

-Chop up veggies (carrots, tomatoes, celery, onion, and cauliflower )
-remember the post of the skinny sweet potatoes I made for Thanksgiving ? Throw the leftovers in there too! This will add flavor and thicken the soup

-set on low for 6 to 8 hours

Enjoy amazingly healthy soup with leftovers from that maybe not so healthy dinner wink emoticon

Who says good things can't come from unhealthy things lol

Working out while pregnant---> My personal opinion

Those of you who think i wake up and feeling like working out every morning .... you are dead WRONG lol

This morning i was freaking tired, I am getting to the point in pregnancy where my feet are killing me 24/7 and a lot of the time i just want to do nothing lol

I decided to kick butt this morning anyway as i hate getting out of my routine. I know how i feel when i don't workout and its WAY worse than the feeling i get right before a workout lol

Also there are MAJOR reasons why i should workout through out my pregnancy:

-You’re likely to gain less weight

-Bounce back faster after baby is born

-Labor and delivery may be easier

-You lower your gestational diabetes risk by as much as 27 percent

-Less back pain

-Have more ENERGY ----> This was a BIG one for me lol my last pregnancy i had NO energy, I was cranky and i honestly hated being pregnant. This round i have LOVED it .. Don't get me wrong I'm ready to meet the little guy but i have noticed that this time i am a much happier person.

-I feel CONFIDENT being 31 weeks pregnant! Honestly i feel great! Even having a basketball for a tummy i feel good which totally helps with the confidence factor.

I have had ALOT of people tell me i shouldn't be working out, saying i should rest and pamper myself. Well i honestly believe this is my way of pampering myself. Of course i workout in moderation, and am very careful not to push my workouts. But this has been an important part of this pregnancy for me. Feeling like a healthy mom makes me feel like I'm bringing a healthy baby into the world ... which is by FAR the most Important thing!

THE FOOD BATTLE

What if I told you these colorful plastic containers were responsible for my success with clean eating?

Those of you who know me personally, know i LOVE to snack. Junk food has always been my demise lol and I've always had a horrible relationship to food... but WHY

{Food} is used to fuel your body. Think about your body being a vehicle. So if your body is your vehicle to move through life, then the food you eat is the fuel that powers your vehicle. ---》It's Important to move well in order to keep your engine running AND it's krutial to eat well in order to give you the energy you need to keep your vehicle powered and ready to go and do the things you want.

When you think about it that way... and then think of the kinds of foods you have been 《fueling》 your body with... do you cringe or do you feel happy with how you've been treating your body?

I have struggled for years with food. I wouldn't eat for days having the hope I would loose a couple pounds but then binge eat and gain even more than I originally started out as. It was a hate .. hate relationship.

☆NEWS FLASH☆ We shouldn't be having such negative relationships with food! The fuel that should power us daily!

These little color coded power containers have literally been my saviour.

Little did I know that my hate relationship with food came from my LACK of knowledge about which kinds of food and how much food I should be giving my body.

I've decided to open my next challenge group starting October 26th for people who SPECIFICALLY need help with:

Over eating
over eating
binge eating
junk food addiction
and lack of knowledge on how to properly FUEL your amazing body

Along with
30 min exercise/ day
dense nutrition smoothies
accountability and support
free coach

If any of this sounds like you can relate.. please comment below or email me at alexnoelle.halton@gmail.com ! I've struggled. .. and overcome my FOOD BATTLE & am ready to help you overcome yours!

Monday Morning

Its Monday. And after a WONDERFUL weekend spent with family and friends. I've realized how far i've come in life. With LOTS of turmoil and mistakes leading the path to get here... I finally have that solid foundation to start forming bigger areas of my life around.

Feeling <BLESSED> And very fortunate to have come this far!

Today's word is thankfulness.

What are you thankful for today?

Saturday 26 September 2015

Are you living your life?

-Long BUT honest post ahead-
Okay i wanted to share something with all of you. I was bored this morning scrolling threw Facebook photos (always nice to reminisce at times!) And i found a few photos that reminded me of times i am not very proud of.

The photo on the left was taken at a bar and I'm pretty sure i was heavily drinking. I was 21 here i think, I was smiling but i know i was not happy. I was making very poor choices in who i was hanging out with, and what i was spending my time doing. I remember being sad, and lonely even tho i was going out all the time.I was extremely unhealthy. I did not eat properly and would binge eat especially after a night of drinking. I was in and out of a very abusive relationship and had no idea who i was or even who i wanted to be. I just was. And it was miserable.

------>Fast forward to the photo on the right. I took this photo maybe a week an a half ago. 28 weeks pregnant & almost 24 wink emoticon in this photo, I am smiling and i KNOW for a fact that i was very happy on this day. I feel healthy and STRONG and like the photo depicts... EMPOWERED. I am making better choices, I am building better relationships... I am exactly who i want to be right now While working on myself to GROW every single day to be BETTER and do BETTER. I am in the most solid relationship i have ever been in, Every day growing with each other to build a strong foundation for our family. I have learned how to take care of my body and treat it as a temple. I am able to be a stay at home mom and raise my kids with this growing foundation in place, And run a business where not only do i get to be my own boss but learn from leaders who have inspired me to live my life in such a positive way! I have stayed committed to making these choices as so far... the out come has been more than anything i could of imagined.

I've come to realize my life is a BLESSING in the making.

No matter where you are in life, What choices you have made or are making.. There is always a time to change. RIGHT NOW. Don't wait till tomorrow or next monday. Start NOW. You have no idea what kind of life you are missing out on... Treat your life like its a blessing NOT a burden and you will see some amazing doors open for you.
Live your life NOW.

Salmon salad with pumpkin seeds and honey vinaigrette

Saturday Lunch LOVE

So we had salmon last night for supper, Which i love because the next day i always get to have some yummy creation from the leftovers for lunch lol

Todays happiness (yes food makes me very happy) was
---->Salmon Salad with pumpkin seeds and a Honey vinaigrette

The recipe:
Salmon ( We have been loving the salmon from superstore, It doesn't taste as fishy as from some of the other places we have tried and for a very low price you get a massive piece. We seasoned it with lemon and MRS dash lemon pepper spice and foiled and BBQ it)

I buy a pre bagged sweet kale salad kit (easier the better am i right?) It comes with Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Kale, Chicory, Dried cranberries & roasted pumpkin seeds.

I then Use honey with chia seeds as my light dressing.

Mix all together and seriously your tastebuds will thank you.
This is one of my favourite lunches. Its light, Healthy and has some amazing flavaa!

Comfort From Home

Between having to find a sitter, Getting ready to go to the gym, Getting a toddler ready to leave the house, Having to pack a bag, Gas and Time spent getting to gym ... These were all excuses i used to NOT go at all!

My solution to this problem... I made my own pilates studio to work out of. Comfort of home people! Makes a HUGE difference.

PROS
-No more excuses could be made to not work out
-Gas and time saved
-I am most comfortable in my own home setting
-I find i challenge myself more as i do not have an audience
-I don't have to leave my house... INTROVERT WIN!!!
-I can do this all before cash wakes up, Or like today... while he was playing with his action figures.

The list could go on. But point made... THIS is an easier route for me! I get it DONE and i feel better after.

Its all about what works for YOU to get the job done and make those steps closer to achieving your goals!

Saturday morning well spent!

Lemon & Ginger water

Why have ordinary water when you are NOT an ordinary person ;)
Lemon and Ginger infused water for this mama today! I LOVE the benefits this tasty drink has!

-It is good for circulation and fights bad (LDL) cholesterol.

Monday 21 September 2015

One Pot Pineapple Chicken & Rice

-On Tonights Menu-

We had Pineapple chicken & rice! I made the rice and veggies in one pot which made for easy clean up! (Anything that makes little dishes is awesome for this busy mom!) And the chicken was so flavourful! It was a HUGE success!

And with it being a very healthy alternative to some fried rices this will most definitely become a staple in this house.

I started off with throwing 1 Cup brown rice into a large pot. 2 1/2 cups water adding 1/2 cup of pineapple juice. I then added in the veggies and garlic spice and paprika with a dash of sea salt and pepper to taste. I then added 1 tbs of coconut oil and set on high to boil.

While i was doing that i prepared skinless chicken breasts with the same spices as listed above. And laid pineapple on top and stuck in the over at 430 degrees. I let that cook for about half hour.

Once the rice boiled i put a lid on and cooked on low for 20 mins.

Once both were done, plated and heavily enjoyed an amazing supper with my love!

This was quick and effortless but very nutritious. Which some days a busy mom just needs!

What excuses are holding you down?

Seriously when piyo says the workout is called drench... it literally means you will sweat until you can't sweat no more LOL

I officially have jello legs! Was it worth it? Heck yes!
I am 29 weeks pregnant, which means 11 weeks left till my little bundle of joy arrives..with my last pregnancy i would laugh at you if you told me i would be so committed to working out with a little baby growing inside of me! I totally used being pregnant as an excuse to be lazy.

Not this round baby! I feel more energized and so proud of myself that i have stayed committed and accountable throughout this journey! Piyo is seriously my all-time favourite right now! So much fun and do you ever feel the BURN lol

Ask yourself .... what excuses have been controlling you? Then ask yourself... Are you ready to COMMIT and stay ACCOUNTABLE to your goals? LETS DO THIS!
